What is Craniosacral Therapy?
Discovered in the 1890s by Dr William Sutherland, a discovery was made that our bones of the skull move in pairs. Why would they need to move? What is the purpose? A whole new system was discovered, The Craniosacral system. Every cell, bone, muscle in our bodies were once fluid in the original created embryonic state. Starting as a embryo and then forming to grow into bones and more solid structures. The body always holds the memory of how it was created into form.
Physical pain in the body through injury, sport, motor vehicle accident, domestic violence can have implications a long time after the event has actually occurred. When impact occurs a shock force can remain in the body, causing severe to mild symptoms immediately or decades down the track. Anxiety can begin to emerge and other behavioural issues, weight gain and/or issues with our organs. The body is more connected as a whole through the fascial system and quite often we are dealing with symptoms of deeper past traumas or injury.
Introduce life and the wonderful and some not so wonderful experiences that it can bring. If we can think of the body as the container we may begin to understand what can happen when the container becomes too full. Pain, anxiety, depression, personality traits or the ability to draw in the same experiences over and over again.
We are finding more and more through science and holistic therapies that the body may hold all memories. This is where the imprints begin and belief systems that belonged to our parents and ancestors that may not resonate with who we truly wish to be.
Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle way to work with the client in a partnership to help clear the client and understand how we operate through the nervous system and are quite often living in survival mode. Using touch with hands on the body we connect in with the bodies own intelligence system, the same one that created us from a tiny little embryo. As we listen very carefully to the client we work gently with certain holds to bring more space to the body so movement becomes possible again.
